It was the summer of 2009 and I was tuned in to The Mike Malloy Radio Show as I made my long nightly commute home from the day job. FBI whistleblower, Sibel Edmonds was interviewed that evening by Brad Friedman, who was filling in for Mike, who was on vacation that week. Here’s an account of that interview from Wikipedia:
In June 2009 interviewed by Brad Friedman on the The Mike Malloy Show, Edmonds has stated : “I have information about things that our government has lied to us about. I know. For example, to say that since the fall of the Soviet Union we ceased all of our intimate relationship with Bin Laden and the Taliban – those things can be proven as lies, very easily, based on the information they classified in my case, because we did carry very intimate relationship with these people, and it involves Central Asia, all the way up to September 11.”
From there I was hooked. I began listening to Sibel’s Boiling Frogs Podcast, which is hosted by Peter B Collins. The show, and Peter’s always-intelligent, informed and passionate commentary within, changed my entire outlook on our world (and later, my songwriting). It introduced me to the important work of Russ Baker, Paul Craig Roberts, Pepe Escobar, Russell Tice, John Young, Coleen Rowley, Thomas Drake and so many more amazingly courageous non-partisan journalists, civil rights attorneys, activists and whistleblowers.
Last year, a bit of the inspiration I gained from listening to the podcast crept into two politically-tinged songs on the pre-cursor to my Red Flag album, called The Shooter EP (the EP includes musical tributes to Edmonds and the late peace activist, Rachel Corrie).
I want to give you a free digital copy of the album today (just enter your first name and email in the form to the right).
I know you probably have had similar experiences with Peter’s shows and I would love to hear about them. I consider my music to be one side of a conversation, but I don’t intend for it to be a ONE-SIDED conversation, so sign up for this free gift and let me know what you think!
